Overview

Our client is a successful and Ground Investigation company providing geotechnical and environmental services to a wide range of sectors in the UK. They take pride in their bespoke approach to efficiently and successfully meet client needs.
 
They have an opportunity at their Manchester office, for an ambitious engineer who wants to further their career in the geoenvironmental industry. The successful candidate will:
  • Discover the fundamentals of the geo-environmental industry, including contaminated land risk assessment and geotechnical design.
  • Become part of a close-knit and dynamic team focused on delivering excellent results for clients.
  • Be given the chance to learn and develop professionally in a practical, hands-on manner in both the office and our sites across the UK.
  • Participate in a variety of challenging and innovative projects across residential, commercial and civil engineering industries, including having opportunities to manage projects through the entire life cycle of a construction programme.
 

Responsibilities

  • Co-ordination, supervision and management of ground investigations, including Phase 1 (desk-top) studies, Phase 2 (intrusive) investigations and subsequent monitoring and remediation works.
  • Ensure the highest standards of health and safety are followed during all field work practices.
  • Accurate and precise recording of fieldwork data, and clear, concise presentation of such data.
  • Liaising with clients, subcontractors and staff in both office and field settings.
  • Preparing client reports, including environmental risk assessments, remedial recommendations, foundation recommendations and coal mining risk assessments.
  • Assisting senior staff with preparations of reports, drawings, models and fee proposals.
 

Requirements

  • A degree in Geology or related subject, ideally with practical modules encompassing field work
  • Minimum 2 years’ relevant industry background.
  • Based within an easily commutable distance to Manchester City Centre office.
  • Confident working in a team and independently.
  • Self-motivated and proactive.
  • Attentive to fine details across all work they produce.
  • A pragmatic thinker capable of anticipating problems ahead of time and determining appropriate & cost-effective solutions.
  • Willing to develop their proficiency in fieldwork techniques, production and management of data and both factual and interpretative reporting.
  • Able to apply a commercial appraisal to projects, ensuring that value for money is paramount in all work undertaken.
  • A full, clean Driving Licence
