Principal / Associate Geo-Environmental Engineer position: Superb opportunity at a growing and successful, Medium-sized Geo-Environmental & Remediation Consultancy. This role is based in Southampton.

Overview

Our client is successful geoenvironmental engineering consultancy undertaking both geo-environmental and geotechnical investigations and assessments throughout the UK. This includes Site Investigation, Contaminated Land and Risk Assessment to support planning, due diligence, project feasibility, development design and remediation on both brownfield and greenfield sites.
 
As a Principal / Associate Geo-Environmental Engineer, you will play a key role in leading complex geo-environmental projects, providing technical expertise, and leading/mentoring junior staff. You will be responsible for managing projects from conception through to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the direction of the business and contribute to its continued success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a variety of geo-environmental projects, including site investigations, risk assessments, and remediation design.
  • Provide technical leadership in contaminated land assessment, geotechnical engineering, and environmental risk management.
  • Develop and review detailed technical reports, including Phase 1 and Phase 2 site assessments, remediation strategies, and validation reports.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, regulators, and stakeholders, ensuring excellent communication and service delivery.
  • Oversee and mentor a team of engineers, providing guidance, training, and support to develop their technical skills and career progression.
  • Conduct and supervise site visits, fieldwork, and data collection activities, ensuring adherence to health and safety protocols.
  • Ensure all projects comply with relevant environmental regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Support business development efforts, including preparing proposals, tender submissions, and building client relationships.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes, and integrate them into project work where applicable.
 

Requirements

  • A degree in Geology, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years background in geo-environmental engineering, with a proven track record in managing complex projects.
  • Chartered status with a relevant professional body (e.g., CIWEM, ICE, or GeolSoc).
  • Extensive knowledge of contaminated land assessment, geotechnical investigations, and remediation techniques.
  • Strong project management skills, with background in leading multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools (e.g., GIS, AutoCAD, geotechnical modelling software).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and client management skills.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
